Magnet Designated Hospital
UCSF Medical Center is honored to receive the prestigious Magnet designation for excellence in nursing practices and quality patient care. Magnet designation is the highest accolade bestowed by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) and is nationally and internationally recognized as reflecting exemplary patient care and nursing engagement across an organization.
UCSF Medical Center is the first hospital in San Francisco, the fourth of the UC Medical Centers and one of only 28 hospitals in California to achieve Magnet designation! On a national level, there are only approximately 7% of hospitals who have received this honor.
Magnet hospitals demonstrate the following distinguishing characteristics:
- Ongoing advancement in the delivery of patient care and increased patient satisfaction
- Significant and sustained nurse retention and recruitment rates
- Active participation in clinical inquiry and research at the local, national and international levels
- Opportunities for staff nurses to proactively contribute to addressing and resolving clinical issues
