UCSF Health International Nursing Fellows Program

The Institute for Nursing Excellence at UCSF Health West Bay runs a UCSF International Nursing Fellows Program that is designed to provide international nurse observers insight into evidence based nursing practice during a clinical observational experience at UCSF Health West Bay hospitals and clinics.

UCSF International Nurse Fellows will experience a broad array of clinical experiences, in addition to concentrated time that is tailored to the international nurse fellow’s clinical interest area(s).  

Other programming provides supervised mentorship and didactic and librarian support for evidence based practice (EBP) and Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) implementation project work.

Clinical Observation

  • Week-long clinical observation program

  • Tailored to the international nurse fellow’s interest area(s)

EBP Mentorship & Clinical Observation

  • Clinical observation program that is tailored to the international nurse fellow’s interest area(s) over a 2-week period, that includes didactic time with the Chief Nurse Researcher & Librarians

  • Six-month supervised EBP program with monthly check-in

  • Program deliverables include a completed small test of change, abstract, podium presentation, and poster

JBI Clinical Fellows programming & Clinical Observation

  • Clinical observation program that is tailored to the international nurse fellow’s interest area(s) over a 2-week period, that includes didactic time with the Chief Nurse Researcher & Librarians

  • Six-month supervised Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) Clinical Fellows program (including two weeks of training at UCSF) with monthly check-in

  • Program deliverables include a completed small test of change and a manuscript for publication

Custom Programming

  • Can customize program with additional features

+ Application Information

  • Applicant must be a nurse and be associated with a facility that will provide a sponsorship letter

  • Clinical requirements must be completed before observer enters the clinical environment

  • Applicant or sponsor is responsible for any fees associated with background check, immunizations, and any necessary visa
